Film in Your Community
The film and television industry is a valuable resource to our community and plays an important role as one of BC's key "economic engines".
The employment and economic opportunities created by BC's motion picture industry are significant. When a project shoots on location, it can leave 25% to 35% of its budget behind in the community in which it films. Hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, lumber yards, florists, dry cleaners, helicopter pilots, gas stations, truck and car rentals, banks, caterers, homeowners, and many other locally based businesses benefit when a film comes to your community. Film production also helps the tourism industry and can serve as a great travelogue for communities by exposing audiences to new and unfamiliar locals.
Beyond these benefits, film production is an exciting process. Our backyards and scenery are featured for the entire world to see, creating a strong sense of local pride and enthusiasm in the community. From film crews in the neighborhoods to trailers lining city streets, if there are ever questions from clients or community, the OFC is here to answer any questions and respond to your concerns.
"Marshall Company and Cedar Productions would like to thank the Okanagan Film Commission for their help and support during the making of the feature film "Snow Falling on Cedars". The assistance you provided during prep and during our constantly changing shooting schedule was indispensable to the completion of the film. The variety and accessibility for the area is certain to attract many feature projects."
