FEATURE FILM TO SHOOT IN THE OKANAGAN

For Immediate Release: April 12, 2005

Anagram Pictures has chosen the Okanagan as the backdrop for their upcoming feature film Fido Fido will be shot entirely on location in Kelowna and surrounding areas starting in early June, for approximately eight weeks of production.  Pre-production will begin in the next few weeks.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to host this production in the Okanagan.  It will not only show off our great locations, but will also utilize many local businesses and talent”, says Jack Peters, Chairman of the Okanagan Film Commission.

“The film industry has real economic potential for us, and we are anxious to host this large scale project to prove we have what it takes to grow the film industry here”, says Robert Hobson, Chairman of the Regional District of the Central Okanagan, funding partner to the Okanagan Film Commission.

Fido will be directed by Andrew Currie, and produced by Mary Anne Waterhouse and Blake Corbet from a script written by Andrew Currie, Dennis Heaton and Robert Chomiak.  It is described as a “feel good zombie movie”.

Recent productions from Anagram Pictures include Mile Zero and the Delicate Art of Parking, both which received much critical acclaim.  “We looked in a number of locations throughout Canada, and finally picked the Okanagan because it provided the complete package.  This project has some very specific locations needs that worked here, and additionally there were supportive tax incentives, and a growing crew base we could utilize.  The film commission worked for seven long months with us helping us figure out a number of complex issues.  It’s clear the Okanagan really wanted this production and at the end of the day, we were presented with some pretty compelling reasons to film Fido here”, says Mary Anne Waterhouse, Producer.

“We are really pleased Fido came together for us.  Last year was a tough one given the uncertainty facing the BC industry, but we believe strongly our area is perfect for these large independent films.  This project is going to be a lot of fun for people in the area who are anxious to see some more film production.  They will definitely be visible within the community over the next few months” says Sara Shaak, Film Commissioner for the Okanagan.

Fido will mark the largest production to film in the Kelowna area.  Casting details and a locations list will be made available shortly.
