No Funding for Okanagan Film Commission from North Okanagan Regional District for 2005
For immediate release: December 8, 2004
At their December 7, 2004 meeting, the Board of Directors of the North Okanagan Regional District voted not to provide the requested funding for the Okanagan Film Commission for the year 2005. Their decision was based on an administrative policy to not fund any late submissions.
"The film industry is a highly competitive industry, and to date we have been building capacity to fully service and gain a competitive advantage for the communities in the Okanagan Valley. Our inquiries are increasing dramatically; our production activity has grown substantially. This is a really unfortunate time to have any reductions in funding that compromises our ability to service the growing demand", says Jack Peters, Chairman of the Okanagan Film Commission.
The Okanagan Film Commission's mandate is to generate a positive economic impact by enabling the growth of the Okanagan-Similkameen-Boundary region as a film centre. With record-breaking location inquiries reaching the office and numerous projects scouting, the Okanagan Film Commission is working towards to a strong film future in the valley.
