Film Commissioner Appointed President of Regional Board
For Immediate Release: October 7, 2004
Okanagan Film Commissioner, Sara Shaak, was appointed President of the Regional Film Commissions Association of BC (RFCABC) at the Annual General Meeting in Vancouver on Monday, October 4, 2004. Sara Shaak had previously been Vice-President for the Association for the past four years. Shaak replaces outgoing President Victoria Weller of the Thompson Nicola Film Commission.
The move to President will see Shaak representing the interests of the regional film commissions at monthly Motion Picture Production Industry Association of BC meetings, participating in provincial film industry committees and active with provincial marketing missions to Los Angeles and beyond. "With the rising competition to attract production to BC, it is important that we promote our regions as film-friendly areas with encouraging production incentives and a proven track record," states Sara Shaak. "Through my role as president of the RFCABC, we will continue to build relationships within the industry to strengthen this position."
"We are very pleased that Sara has accepted this challenging role," states Okanagan Film Commission Chairman, Jack Peters. "It allows us to further promote the Okanagan region to the world."
The role of the RFCABC is to act as a communication network to facilitate efficient and effective presentation of potential locations throughout BC for film and television production. It also acts as the coordinating body for cooperative marketing campaigns with the regional film commissions and the BC Film Commission.
Sara Shaak is also the 1st Vice President of the Association of Film Commissioners International, the membership body representing film commissions world wide.
